When repainting any interior project, preparation is important. We remove all cover plates on walls first. Then we fill and sand any minor wall imperfections. Sanding the wall prior to painting ensures that we are working with a perfectly smooth surface. Next we caulk the seams or baseboards. Sealing with caulk helps stop air leaks, helps prevent mold and water damage, reduces allergens and pollutants, and lowers energy costs. Our last step before painting is to apply a stain block. The stain block will cover up watermarks, nicotine, markers, and smoke. This process will also prevent those stains from bleeding through the newly applied layers of paint.
If ceilings are being painted-smooth, stomp or textured, these get done first. Painting ceilings can be a very messy job, so it’s important to tackle them first to prevent having to repaint the walls. Cleanliness is very important to us, so we use canvas drop clothes and spools of plastic for draping/protection. This helps ensure that the only thing we notice after we leave is the beautiful paint job.
If trim is being repainted, we paint all related doors, windows, baseboards, etc next. This gives your trim has a nice, fresh look. The reason we paint the trim in a group is so the next day, we can tape off (blue tape) all of your trim areas. The trim paint will be cured which will allow us to start the walls. We also use an HVLP system on trim to ensure an even coat and reduce the risk of overspray. Using this equipment also saves time, money and reduces waste.
When walls are being done, we complete full rooms so that the tape can be pulled and any room/furniture can be put back in place…and you can start enjoying your new room as soon as possible! Hate the smell of paint? Ask us about our odorless painting services!
